random thoughts on a Sunday night
- The Theological Institute of the Inter-Congregations of the Lovers of the Holy Cross needs to be suppressed.
- Last week was sad. I was feverish and exhausted for most of it and Walter Koenig and Patrick Stewart died . To top it all off, October 31 is the anniversary of my mother-in-law's death. It's so sobering to see parts of your childhood and youth fall away. My mother-in-law suffered so long and her death from sepsis was so bad that this time of year is bittersweet.
- The Georgia martyrs were beatified yesterday. They were actual Catholics who died for the love of Jesus. I wish more members of Catholic social media had given them more attention.
- Catholic weddings need a serious reform. Why the priest allowed this woman to come into church dressed like this and then allowed the couple to give each other Communion is a mystery.
- A few days ago, a woman mentioned that she's lost 100 pounds. People responded by congratulating her and saying that she looked great. She does not look great. Her pale, sickly flesh is yellowed and hanging on weakened bones. She didn't lose the weight by diet and exercise, she has cancer and it's really bad. Her treatment and the side effects have caused horrors that most of us don't want to really think about. The kindest thing I can say is that the people who cheered her weight loss did so because that's just what people do. Obesity is awful and dropping poundage is a good thing, but in this context her weight loss is not a positive, it's creeping death. Have adults lost common sense? Are we no longer able to hold more than one point in our minds? I was disgusted.
