Seems to me he's behaving like a typical bully: lording over people when he thinks he can get away with it, and toadying to people he wants to get on the good side of. I have no respect for him.

If King Charles X of France had had that attitude, there would have been no Algerian War 1829-30, and France would have been paying to slave hunters in Algeria, to pirates of Oran and Alger, like Germany is paying to Israel!

Seriously, he seems (but our eyes may be playing tricks on us, of course!) to be forgetting that a President and a King are supposed to be equals, insofar as both are for the time being (we are not Elvish monarchies where Rivendell exists only in Elrond's lifetime and Gondolin only in Turgon's) soveriegns of sovereign nations.
