the old town's gone crazy

The big boys at my firm decided at the last minute to give us all the day off for the ignaugural. Thank God! I was not looking forward to struggling to get to work on a train jammed full of tourists. I intend to spend the day in bed with a book. DC is very, very strange right now. I've never seen such wild adoration before for any president. Obama's posters are everywhere. I'm not just talking about the vendors selling shirts. There are Obama window displays in the better clothing and jewelry stores up and down Connecticut Ave to Georgetown. One of my favorite stores has a huge glass sculpture of Obama in the window. It's all too Dear Leaderish for my liking.

It's pretty hard to boycott the coronation with all things Obama surrounding us, haha...Fortunately my town hasn't gone off the wall (yet)...though by Tuesday I expect the same.

And they laughed when we said this would happen.

All things Obama, from the street vendors to the local Giant to the song in praise of the Most Merciful, Lord High Barack Obama.

Shades of Mao and Stalin, if you ask me.

Y'all sound awfully like sour grapes to me. I am very happy to be alive for this historic occasion.

I am also glad I will be at home in front of my TV instead at the Mall. :)

Joe - Coronation is exactly how I described it to my husband. I'm boycotting big time. I have three good books - two by B16 and one by Tolkien - to pass the time on Tuesday. There will be a media blackout in my house. I plan to welcome Barry by attending the March for Life on Thursday.

Great graphic, Dymphna. Is that the Orange line?

I'm sending my Methodist wife and son off tomorrow for the parade, staying home in FC w/shades drawn, wine glass at hand, Bose playing William Byrd, and re-reading Tolkien's Letters.

Hasn't anybody studied Girard enough to know what an internal mediator is?

Our Lord knew exactly what would happen after his Palm Sunday entrance into Jerusalem - shouts of "Crucify him!" on Thursday.

Big Zero and handlers will make sure that won't happen, esp. with the MSM in their hip pockets.

Athos, do you love your Bose? We've been dithering on whether to get one or not.

That has to bizarre(and hard for a conservative). I think this whole presidency will be like an extended "anything can happen" day.

Yes, we do really like it for 2-3 reasons. It's so compact, it sits atop our TV armoire in the living room (high is better) - best sound for the size, period. We got the dock for multiple plug-ins (free at the time as a promo), and plugged the DVD player, so the sound for movies is absolutely superb. Finally, if you love listening to WETA classical music, the Bose is truly choice.

DC CATHOLIC gets a cookie for calling it right! Obama is being treated like a God annointed leader, or worse a God himself. One apparently that likes and wants babies to be killed "anytime, anywhere". Utter nonsense and evil.
