In memoriam

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Two American airmen were murdered in Frankfurt, Germany by a Muslim from Kosovo. The coverage in the media has been pathetic. We know more about what's on what's left of Charlie Sheens' brain than we know about the killer of our fellow Americans.

"There is no safe place" is a truism for any human on this globe.

But press coverage was all over the place days ago; USA Today, Yahoo News, Forbes, Evening News outlets and many more.

But it was not terrorism by any connection, and the family of the 21 year old is firmly pro-American.

There are many causes for despair for all; nuclear proliferation, terrorism, econonic collapse, corporate greed, sin, environmental catastophe as the Gulf Spill.....glossed over, and more.

This remains an isolated incident to date, and is happening in any town in the world, not just Germany and the airman station.

The press coverage documented thousands and thousands of comments by the illiterate and literate, albeit the former held majority opinion, and rant.

That said, prayers of condolences for the two killed, their families and friends, dreams stopped short, and even the family of the killer (a 21 year old kid), who are all in deep pain, would be the most Christian act at this point.

No press coverage was given as Abel succumbed as he was slain by his brother, Cain.....over in muslim land...but the event was recorded for all time by God.

"Am I my brother's keeper" asked Cain upon capture and arrest, but prior to judgement and conviction.

"Indeed you are" said the Father.
"His blood cries out to me from the ground, and you will now be marked forever"

On Yahoo News, 6,000 plus people, began to murder one another with their verbiage, personal attack, and ad hominem attack too.

Let next Wednesday's Lenten placement of ashes remind all:
"Ashes to ashes; dust to dust"

And that news came from God, as a result of Cain's mom and dad, in the Garden, where sin began:

"In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."

These men have touched a chord in your heart Dymphna. And the touch is from the hand of God, to pray and to fast, that the spiritual holds at bay, the physical.

A good place to begin is
Ephesians 6:10-20.

And memorizing Philippians, or Colossians, (very short books), or better than that, all of Ephesians 6 chapters is an ideal Lenten activity, that will pay huge and eternal dividends in your future, as you utter scripture aloud.

May the airmen rest in peace.

The verse, is it from "Dappled Things"?
