FDLS and their Catholic defenders

I am shocked at how many Catholic bloggers are defending the FDLS freaks. I have read hysterical rants claiming that if the government can take the FDLS kids away from their parents it will come for Catholic kids next or the FDLS kids are now going to be exposed to the evil modern world and that's child abuse in itself.

People! I'm from the rugged individualist school of thought myself, and I tend to view the government with a jaudiced eye but there is a fine line between cynicism and paranoia.

If you think it's okay for a 13 year old to be raped everynight by a 50 year old man because Marie Antoinette was 14 when she got married (the marriage was not consumated until she was grown) or becuase arranged marriages have worked out fine for society for centuries then I have no words for you. I can not see you. I can not hear you. You are beyond the frigging pale.

So far 41 kids have been found to have bone fractures and old healed broken bones. My husband and his brother played football from roughly the ages of 10 to 21. Southern, smashmouth, run with the big dogs football. In all those years they only have one fracture or break between them. FDLS kids are not allowed to play sports so how'd they get those fractures? Isn't beating a kid or working him so hard that he breaks child abuse? Are you for child abuse in the name of family privacy? And do you consider plural marriage finacned by welfare fraud a genuine marriage or in anyway pleasing to Christ? If you do I can not see you. I can not hear you. You simply don't exist in the realm of civilized discourse or thought.

You go, girl! I'm with you! How can Catholics condone this behavior?

Dymphna,

I have given up arguing with Coffee Catholic at her "Catholic" blog (not to be confused with the one she shares at Walled Garden). This line of thinking that anything goes - even polygamy, forced marriages, pedohilia, and physical abuse - so long as it is done in the name of the Christian God, is a blatant violation of the Second Commandment.

They also have a commune in British Columbia, in the Kootenays near to where I grew up. They are a bunch of freaks! The children in their communes are captives, and the girls are used for sexual pleasure for the men. Sadly, our Canadian government has always turned a blind eye to their immoral living arrangements.

It is hard to be pro-life and see how defending this insanity does not have grave errors. I believe that Joseph Smith was a rapist too so it has been passed down through the cults history. Seeing the women(or teens, who knows) interviewed was hard to stomach. There is definate abuse and brain-washing. We are to live "in the world" not "of the world" and the FLDS are doing neither. They need prayers(and to put the old men behind bars). I read that they also kick out young boys/teens so the older men don't have competition. That is an outrage. How can a mother deny her young child for "the kingdom"? It turns my stomach.

So St Thomas Aquinas is?

And WHO exactly says it's a question of rape?

The child welfare tricksters!

And "because Marie Antoinette was 14 when she got married (the marriage was not consumated until she was grown)" ... I have seen speculations or even a rumour this was because Louis XVI needed some operation before being able to perform.

And part of the denial comes from a Catholic mother indeed, but a modern one.

St Bridget was married at 13 and consummated marriage at 14.

Count me as one of the Catholic defenders, though when I wrote this, I was Orthodox:
