The Missal

This painting is called "The Missal." It's beautiful but it also reminds me of a claim made by an "expert" that nobody used missals at all until the 1920s. I knew I was reading tommyrot but others believed him.

Thanks, Dymphna, for the history lesson and the painting. You have quite the eye for fine art!
Thank you!
Have a lovely loving Lent!

"Nobody" can have referred to "nobody in his hometown".

Even if he didn't think so. Or "nobody in the material" (necessarily a small selection) which he studied.

Laymen with Missals got a boost from Dom Pius Parsch back in 20's, that the expert was right in. But Dom Prosper Guéranger was around before that.

Btw, when is the painting from? Sure it is older than 20's?
