leave Bristol Palin alone

When I was in high school I knew two classmates who got pregnant. Both girls came from middle to upper class families. Their "nice", sophisticated suburban parents made them get abortions and although I managed to keep a blase expression on my face, inside I was shocked by that. One girl had two abortions, the other had one. One was incredibly bitter at her boyfriend for dumping her and leaving her to kill their child by herself. The other was just sad that the whole ugly business had to be done because her parents didn't want to be shamed in front of their friends. She was also upset because her boyfriend now seemed to have lost all respect for her. Both these girls knew what they'd done. Planned Parenthood couldn't convince them that they'd just shed some random cells.

Teenaged pregnancy happens. We are hard wired to breed when we are fertile. I am not saying that fornication is not a mortal sin. I am not dismissing fornication or making light of it in any way. I would never say or do that but out of wedlock pregnancy does happen. Our society just sweeps it and the poor innocent babies under the rug by forcing girls to add murder to the original fornication.

My grandmother gave birth to my dad when she was a teenager. She was unwed and could not marry my grandfather becuase he was already married to a relative of hers. It was the scandal of the county and no, my grandmother was not a good mom to her eldest son at all but I thank God she chose to give him life instead of sneaking off to the local abortionist. And she could've done that. Contray to the urban legends, the abortionists in my parent's little backwoods town were well known and were successful at what they did. My grandmother could've made her problem go away and no-one other than my great grandmother would've been the wiser. Give Bristol Palin a break. She has chosen to let her innocent child live. And that's all I have to say.

I agree, she's doing the honorable and correct thing, and even though she committed mortal sin, she's taking responsibility, which not many people do now and days.

Yup, with you 100%. And I'm having a hard time distinguishing now between the Oleftists and a number of Catholic conservatives lining up with nails and hammer in hand. I consider myself conservative and I can't find the link that ipso facto deciding to keep a baby and choosing not to hide this reality means a gloss of sin. I expected the Left to make this a circus of this but hell...

A strange thought occurs to me over all the uproar among liberals about this teenage pregancy - they are really thinking this (perhaps) "She should have aborted that baby, what a shame she's actually being saddled with it instead!" You just KNOW they're not upset by a teen being sexually active, because they're all for that after all...

Sanctus Belle, your thoughts on the matter are exactly mine. The scandal for the Left is that she chose to keep and did not abort the baby. What a terrible culture we live in! The West lost its soul. It is time for a cosmic chastisement against Mankind. I dont believe we could get any worse than what we are now.

I'm the result of fornication! My mom got pregnant with me out of wedlock and *then* had a shot-gun wedding. I'm the bump that's poking out from her wedding gown...

Yeah, folk need to SHUT UP about this girl's pregnancy. It is not a sin, nor is it a crime, to be pregnant!! And yeah... how many people that are pointing fingers either have had pregnant unwed teenage daughters themselves, or have sons that have gotten unwed teends pregnant, or were pregnant/impregnating teens themselves?? This is just another excuse to fling mud... the way that folk run for Prez in this country is such a disgrace!! How many millions (billons?) spent on campains while people go hungry and homeless? How much mud-slinging and nonsense?? *Sigh*

An excellent pastoral argument (if legislation were still in Catholic hands) for legalising teen marriages (not as in 18-19, but as in original meaning of Quinceañera or even younger.
