The Novice

William Frith Powell was English but didn't seem to be affected by the usual unapologetic anti Catholic sentiment at least in the beautiful rendering of this painting.

The "usual" part very much seems to depend on what class in society. And what confessional shade.

Artists and Anglo-Catholics were somewhat less likely to be anti-Catholic than Politicians (many at least) and Evangelicals.

He is buried in Kensal Green, meaning he might have been NOT an Anglican, he might have been a Roman Catholic even.

"Frith died on the 2nd of November 1909."
