call me a philistine if you like,

but I really don't like this painting of St. Gianna at the new Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in Wisconsin.. You know gnats and flies always buzz around your head? That's what the blonde cherubs look like their doing. I almost expect the saint to swat them.

The saint herself looks like a bad work of Soviet Realism.
Oh dear,is this thing really at the new Shrine? Reminds me of of Our Lady's appearance at the National Shrine in D.C. when it opened: "If people are good, some day I will build a beautiful church on this spot."

Quite interesting really!

I think the wingless "cherubs" in white are her children who were miscarried.

I do love the paintings of her children. The little girl beside her in the white dress is her daughter that died shortly after her passing.

Ah. The wingless ones as the lost babies makes sense. And it's a lovely idea. I still can't say that I like the execution.

She does look like she's annoyed.
